Wildfires

Wildfires occur at the Boodjamulla National Park (Aboriginal Land), which includes the Riversleigh section of the Australian Fossil Mammal Sites. However, fire is not a significant issue for Riversleigh’s value because its fossils are encased in hard limestone deposits.

The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service Fire Strategy includes working with neighbours to minimise the risk of large-scale fires through a system of broad-scale fire control.
